A new play written and directed by Mike Firek, abut history, perseverance and friendship:  The story of General Grant and Mark Twain.

Ulysses S. Grant – Civil War general, president of the United States, an American hero. Mark Twain – best-selling author, humorist and recon tour. Freeport Theatre Festival’s Mike Firek brings these two American icons together in his latest work, The General and Mark Twain. 

Re-live the story of Ulysses S. Grant, an ordinary man who achieved greatness during an extraordinary time in our history, and his rise from a disgraced former officer to the command of the victorious Union army. The journey progresses through Grant’s efforts to win the Civil War and the peace that followed. And later, when it seems his legacy might be lost, his old friend Mark Twain steps in to help the General put a final stamp of excellence on his amazing life.
